Good Fortune.....Times 3!

Last week I had lunch with a few coworkers at one of my favorite luch spots, Chopsticks.  I got my usual seasame chicken and crab rangoon.  What came at the end of the meal was the best part.

Now....when the fortune cookies arrive after an Asian meal, I always eat my cookie before reading my fortune.  On this particular day...I had three fortunes in one cookie.  IT has to mean something, right?

Matt's Bar WINS!!!

The official feud is over.  I have made the final decision on which Juicy/Jucy Lucy is better.  If you don't know what a Jucy Lucy is....here's the history.

A Jucy Lucy (or Juicy Lucy) is a cheeseburger having the cheese inside the meat patty rather than on top. A piece of cheese is surrounded by raw meat and cooked until it melts, resulting in a molten core of cheese within the patty. This scalding hot cheese tends to gush out at the first bite, so servers frequently warn patrons to let the burger cool for a few minutes before consumption.

Two bars on the same street in South Minneapolis both claim to have invented the sandwich: Matt's Bar and the 5-8 Club.[1] They differ in how they spell it. Shirts worn by staff at the 5-8 Club have the motto "if it's spelled right, it's done right" while advertising for Matt's Bar says, "if it's spelled correctly, you're at the wrong place."

Reinterpretations of the Lucy are encouraged, rather than quashed. For example, the Groveland Tap in neighboring St. Paul serves a "Cajun Lucy" featuring jalapeƱo peppers floating in pepper jack cheese. St. Paul has the The Nook which serves a "Juicy Nookie" and The Blue Door Pub which has the Juicy Blucy, which consists of bleu cheese and finely chopped garlic. Another variation has fried bacon as well as cheese in the middle.

Last Friday I decided to try the Juicy Lucy at the 5-8 Club with my friends Beverly and Bob.  Though the burger was good....I give the edge to Matt's Bar's Jucy Lucy.  If you remember, I reviewed Matt's Bar a year ago.  The burger was much cheesier and messier, which is good in my book.

Does anyone have a different take on the two burgers?

Lady Gaga....Too Far

I'm definitely not a Lady Gaga fan.  This just adds to my confusion and dislike for her.

Walmart has an entire section of Gaga costumes in the Halloween section.  Guarantee that everyone and their mom will be dressed like her.  How many meat dresses do you think you'll see?

National Gaudy Day

I guess those who like Ed Hardy can have one day and feel good about their decisions. Everyone take a moment and add an accessory or wear something that is totally gaudy.

New Favorite Song

I'm always looking out for new music.  I first heard this song on Elvis Durran in the Morning.  I instatnly fell in love with it. I ended up downloading the entire CD and have been listening to it since.

Enjoy-- Little Lion Man by Mumford & Sons

Missed it by one day

Since there have been rumors that I can't confirm or deny that I am half Asian...I feel like I have to post this.

Yesterday was National Hug an Asian Day.  Where were all my hugs?

Free Jeans at the Gap

One of my favorite things that happened this Summer was Free Jeans Day at the Gap.  The only store in the World that had this promotion was Valley West in West Des Moines.  The first 50 people in the store received a free pair of jeans.  My friend Ryan and I got to the mall 45 minutes before it opened to fight off the line....but in reality, there was no line.  No one knew about it.  We called everyone we knew to tell them about the deal.  Ryan's friend Brian and my friend Amy were the only two to respond.  Here's a picture of the day.

Before the store opened, a crowd of about 15 started lining up.  A guy who appeared to be homeless walked by and asked what was going on.  We told him to get in line for a free pair of jeans.  He did so.  I guess that was me paying it forward.  Hey....people who are homeless want to look good in Gap jeans too.

My Day with Colbie Caillat

A couple months ago I was invited to Flemming's Steakhouse by my friend Apiram.  Of course the food was good, but the best part of the day was listening to a live show by Colbie Caillat.  Take a look at the picture below.  I clearly made an impression.

So Funny....I Cried

I thought I had seen all the best skits SNL had to offer....WRONG!  VH1 had an SNL marathon on a few weeks ago-- and to my surprise, this little gem turned up.  Be careful....you might cry it's so funny.

Song of the Day-- Joshua Radin

A few weeks ago on the Bachelorette, Joshua Radin was featured while Ali was on a date in Las Vegas.....so I heard anyway.  I don't watch it....cough, cough.  This is noteworthy for a couple reasons.  #1-- I love the fairly unknown artist and #2-- they were at Aria.  This is the hotel/casino I stayed at twice in the past few months while in Vegas.

Anyway...here is my new favorite song by Joshua Radin.

Baby you, you got what I need

Baby you, you got my sunshine

Baby you, you got what I need

Baby you, you got my sunshine

When I see you it's a beautiful world

But when you're gone, I want you in my arms

I'm telling you the last time

Baby you, you got what I need

Baby you, you got my sunshine

Every night I notice you're all alone

Wonder you might

Let me love you I'm on fire

Cant you feel my desire

I want to take you higher

 a simplest thing,

Always so hard to see

I want to be

The one and only making you feel love

Oh darling I need love

It all I can dream of

Baby you, you got what I need

Baby you, you got my sunshine

Baby you, you got what I need

Baby you, you got my sunshine

You got my sunshine

Meet Ari!

My BFF's, (who are also MVP's and VIP's) Justin and Mandy welcomed their first child two weeks ago.  Ezrah Justin Ari Jordan was born Tuesday, July 6th.  He is perfect in every way.  I've even held him for several minutes.  This may not seem like a big deal to most...but for someone who doesn't really like babies...this is progress.  Take a look at the little pun'kin.

I'M BACK!!!!!

Sorry I have been M.I.A. for the past month.  I took a well needed hiatus, but am back feeling fresh and ready for some fun.  I thought a good way to welcome myself back was to show something that I will be welcoming back in October.

Paranormal Activity 2!  IT'S BACK this Halloween!

Just a Sign?

The past few days I haven't felt 100%...not sure why.  Maybe it's because I tore my last contact and had to wear my glasses(which I HATE).  Maybe it's getting used to my new schedule.  Maybe I'm still catching up from the fun, long weekend.

This morning I woke a little after 5:00am to teach a class at GIM.  I didn't want to get out of bed.  I didn't want to do anything but stay in bed.  I took my dogs for a walk right after I woke up and it was gloomy out.  Not a great start to the day.  I got ready for my class before walking out to my car.  I took a look to the Western sky.  This is what I saw.

Amazing, right?  I know this is going to sound way too emotional, but it really moved me.  First of all, I have never seen a rainbow so early in the day. It was only 5:30am.  I took a look toward the Capitol building, which is only a few blocks from my loft, and there was a nice orange glow from the hidden sun.  I turned back around and the rainbow was gone.  I looked back at the Capitol, and the orange glow was gone.  I know that I can't be the only person to see such an awesome site...but I do feel it was a sign just for me.  What a difference it made in my day.

Denim Diapers?

Ok...I like to look stylish.  Many people don't like the idea of babies wearing diapers that look like jeans.  I happen to love the idea.  Take a look at the following commercial.  My favorite line is, "my diaper is full of chic."

Detention Slip

Far and away, this is my favorite email I received today.  This came from my friend Jenny Erdman.  Take a look at the entire detention slip.
I know that I would totally love this kid.  "That's what she said," is on of my favorite things to say.  I physically have to cover my mouth when I NEED to say it.

No U2 Show....OH NO!

For my last b.day, Adam and Harmony's gift to me was a night out including a U2 show in Minneapolis.  Well....this just in.  Bono had to undergo emergency back surgery.  BUMMER!

U2 has indefinitely postponed the North American leg of its 360Āŗ tour until next year, the band announced today via press release. The rockers tabled 16 dates scheduled for this June and July after Bono suffered a major back injury. The press release cites “severe compression of the sciatic nerve” and “a serious tear in the ligament and a herniated disc.” The singer was discharged from a hospital in Munich after emergency surgery on May 21. Doctors expect his recovery to last “at least eight weeks.”

The press release encourages fans to keep their tickets, and promises that the gigs will be rescheduled soon. Were you planning on seeing any of those 360Āŗ tour dates? Share your get-well-soon wishes for Bono in the comments below.

Is this a Joke?

Please tell me you have seen this?  If you haven't...you are in for a treat.  This is the audition for Chris Klein an Mamma Mia.  This is one of the worst things I have ever seen.

Blast From the SNL Past

This video is for my boy, Chad.  We used to watch this on repeat in the old days.  Take a look.  My favorite part is when she says, "Congratulations Mrs. Darcey...its a jerrrrrk."

New Slang

Love it or hate it...slang is here to stay.  Here are some new words, phrases, letters you may be hearing in the near future.  I have to admit...I have fauxted before. Anyone else?

Fauxt
v. the act of avoiding human interaction by pretending to use a mobile device.
"That elevator ride with the guy I smooched at the holiday party was so painful. I was fauxting throughout the whole 15 floor journey."

Alt
n. term used to describe a person who listens to 'alternative' music or to designate a 'hipster.' Though 'alternative' has been used as a music descriptor since the '90s, Hipster Runoff blogger Carles has reintroduced 'alt' as a humorous, and slightly derogatory, noun.
"Do you think that alt's pants could be any tighter? I think I can see his veins."

Slay
v. used to describe an action, event or experience in a positive light. A product of the melding of metal and hipster culture, 'slay' can be used interchangeably with 'rule'.

"Dude, did you see Liturgy the other night at Glasslands? They totally slayed."

OMLG (Oh My Lady Gaga)
interj. term being used by Chinese youth in place of "Oh My God" or "OMG" as an exclamation of surprise, excitement, or horror.
"OMLG, she got so fake tan over the weekend that her skin matches the carrots in my salad."

PMFM
n. acronym for the phrase "Pure Mother F*?!ing Magic;" popularized by Insane Clown Posse, who've used it to describe the simple miracles around us.
"Finding a $50 bill on the street has put me in PMFM mode."

My Weekly Challenge

The past two days I have woken up early.  The first thing I have done is spent a consider amount of time in prayer and have listened to the song, "Alive Again" by Matt Maher.  I blogged about this song months ago...but I can't think of a better song to get you back on track with life.  I encourage you to not only listen to this song daily, but share it with someone.
